Steady Pressure Sportfishing owns and operates two sport fishing boats out of South Maui’s Ma’alaea Harbor.
You’ll be trolling for mahi-mahi (dorado), ono (wahoo), ahi (tuna), and billfish (pacific blue marlin, striped marlin, short-nosed spearfish). Artificial lures, and occasionally live bait are used. At the end of every charter, the crew will cut up a portion of the day’s catch for you to enjoy while you’re the island. Fish is not shipped.
FISHING BOATS
JUN KEN PO is a large, 42′ Bertram sportfishing yacht. She features modern electronics and top-of-the-line, tournament-quality sport fishing gear. Jun Ken Po’s comfortable interior includes a spacious salon with tinted windows, comfortable interior seating, a table, and a clean, modern marine head. There is also a stateroom below deck if someone feels like resting for a while.
Jun Ken Po is a proven catch boat, and has caught a number of granders in her day, but mahi mahi and ono are probably the most commonly caught fish off Maui.
MUSUBI is a lovely 35′ Cabo, also departing from Maalaea Harbor, brought online in February 2025. This lovely vessel had a single, private owner who meticulously maintained her inside and out. She features A/C cabin, and, like Jun Ken Po, is fully equipped with tournament-grade sport fishing gear including:
- Shimano rods and reels
- Both light and heavy tackle
- fighting chair
- outriggers
- high-end color fish finders, GPS, and chart plotters
Musubi and Jun Ken Po are used interchangeably. While Fish Maui can put in a request for a specific captain or vessel on private charters, it cannot be guaranteed.
SPORTFISHING CAPTAINS
Lead captain Ryan Hall was born and raised on Maui. He landed his first fish at the tender age of 6, and began working on fishing boats in 1984 when he was only 9 years old.
Captain Ross Elkins has lived in Hawaii most of his life. His father is world-renowned big game lure-maker Steve Elkins. Rest assured, when Ross is on the bridge you’ll have a captain with the knowledge and the tools to bring up the big ones!
Captain Tim Putnam has worked with a number of different sport fishing companies on Maui over the decades, making him one of Maui’s most experienced sport fishing captains. “Timster”, as he is affectionately known, is an enthusiastic, friendly, and versatile fisherman who’s repeatedly requested by clients in-the-know.
