Fish Maui was developed in 1997 by Captain Mike Crawford, a Maui sport fishing veteran and self-professed curmudgeon, and myself – a website designer and mother of two.
Over the years, Mike fought hundreds of marlin, mahimahi, ono and other Hawaii game fish. He worked in virtually every aspect of the Maui sport fishing business, from sales, to crew, to captain to vessel/business owner. After owning and operating his own sport fishing business for 7 years (Rhythm & Blues Sportfishing) Mike gave up the 14-hour days when our son was born in lieu of the more rewarding job as “Mr. Mom”. Guess what… he discovered that being a domestic engineer is harder than landing a 500lb. blue marlin!
Mike passed away in October, 2012 after a battle with cancer. I’m afraid he couldn’t kill that particular beast with a billy club.
Having helped Mike manage charter bookings since Fish Maui’s inception, I have continued with the business, answering questions and helping clients secure the best Maui fishing charters for their particular needs. I stay in daily contact with the local charter operators and look forward to sharing news with you here for many years to come.
I am pleased to announce that my daughter, Randi Crawford, has joined the business. Ahhh…. Dad would be proud!
Mike’s parting words:
“So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish!”
Some days, I really wish I could channel Mike, and write for this site with the same down-to-earth no-holes-barred flair he was known for. Alas, when it comes out of my mouth it just sounds… well… snarky. If you want to get a taste of what this unique man was like, read his obligatory “Terms of Use”
Tight lines all!
