In Norse mythology, ”Mjölnir“ (pronounced “me-OL-near” – the “j” is silent) is the hammer of the Thunder God, Thor, and the symbol of his power. This is appropriate, considering her owner/operator is captain Thorin (Thor) Lindstrom, founder of Lahaina Maritime.
Stand-up sport fishing, Maui Hawaii
Departing daily from south Maui’s Ma’alaea Harbor, the 37′ Viking Valhalla, Mjölnir operates private and shared sport fishing charters, bottom fishing charters, seasonal whale-watching tours, and sunset cruises. This brand new, custom-made center console vessel is the ideal choice for anglers and adventurers in search of a challenge. This is stand-up fishing at its best!
What to Expect
Be prepared to leave early! Full-day fishing charters leave the dock at around 4:00 am. These trips are designed for serious saltwater anglers. While that might seem early, the captains operating Mjölnir are used to leaving well before 4:00am when they operated out of Lahaina. We encourage people to book a full-day trip whenever possible. That gives you plenty of time to work Maui’s most productive waters! If 8 hours is simply too long, or too early, 6-hour trips typically depart at 5:00 am, and 4-hour (1/2 day) trips can leave as late as 7:00 am.
Depending on the weather, fishing trips may involve a 30-40 mile run offshore to one of Maui’s Fish Aggregation Devices, or “FADs”. Using a combination of live bait, dead bait, and trolling lures, fast-moving pelagic game fish such as mahi-mahi (dorado), yellowfin and big eye tuna (ahi), striped and blue marlin, spearfish, and ono (wahoo) can be found. Fish caught usually range in size from 9 to over 50 lbs., but larger fish are still possible!
The trip back to Ma’alaea harbor is always different. En route, the crew will point out any dolphins, whales, and other marine life you might be lucky enough to come across.
Center console (aka CC’s) fishing is sometimes a bit more of an adventure than the cabin sportfishing boats. “CC’s” are open to the elements and they often fish in wind and waves that spray water on guests. Ma’alaea Harbor in particular can get very windy in the early afternoon. We recommend that you dress appropriately to enjoy this unique experience.
Mjölnir is licensed for up to 6 guests plus capt and crew. On shared charters groups are limited to 4.

ABOUT THE CAPTAIN
Mjölnir is owned/operated by captain Thorin Lindstrom (Thor), founder of Lahaina Maritime. Thor is a lifelong fisherman. After fulfilling his dream as a veterinarian for over 20 years, he and his family moved to Maui where they have been coming for over 17 years. He has a passion for fishing and boating on the Pacific Ocean in the waters around Maui and decided his next adventure would be sharing the beauty of Maui from the comfort of his 33’ center console Boston Whaler, “Social Distancing”. Sadly, this vessel was lost within a year to the Lahaina Fire in August 2023. The good news is, he already had plans to replace her with his current boat, Mjölnir.
And don’t worry, he won’t be upset if you refer to his boat as “Thor’s Hammer” (or simply “The Hammer”). He knows Mjölnir is hard to pronounce!!
