In Norse mythology, ”Mjölnir“ (pronounced “me-OL-near” – the “j” is silent) is the hammer of the Thunder God, Thor, and the symbol of his power. This is appropriate, considering her owner/operator is captain Thorin (Thor) Lindstrom, founder of Lahaina Maritime.
South Maui bottom fishing charters
Departing from south Maui’s Ma’alaea Harbor, the 37′ Viking Valhalla, Mjölnir operates private, 4-hour bottom fishing charters, as well as sport fishing charters, whale watching, and sunset cruises. This brand new, custom-made center console vessel is the ideal choice for anglers age 10 and up. She accommodated up to 6 guests.
What to Expect
More “hands-on” than sport fishing, bottom fishing is an active style of fishing where you get to have your hands on the rod. Perfect for family fishing trips, Mjolnir’s Maui bottom fishing charters focus on catching fish frequently found in the deep, nearshore waters off the Maui coast. This includes Uku (gray snapper), Ulua (trevally), Ehu (red snapper), Ta’ape (bluelined snapper), Kahale (amberjack), and a variety of other jacks, goatfish and more. The crew will be using a combination of live and cut bait and artificial jigs. Gear is a mixture of light spinning and conventional tackle.
Cruising the waters just offshore of Ma’alaea harbor guests may be able to see marine wildlife such as whales (Dec-Mar), dolphin, and sea turtles. the crew will be happy to point these out to you. Aboard Mjölnir you’ll be nearer to the water than Maui’s more traditional fishing boats, so chance encounters could get up close and personal!
Center console (aka CC’s) fishing is sometimes a bit more of an adventure than the cabin sportfishing boats. “CC’s” are open to the elements. Ma’alaea Harbor in particular can get very windy in the early afternoon. Be prepared for a little wind and seaspray. A light towel in your bag is recommended! unique experience.
Mjölnir is licensed for up to 6 guests plus capt and crew. On shared charters groups are limited to 4.

ABOUT YOUR CAPTAINS
Captain Thorin Lindstrom (Thor), is the owner/founder of Lahaina Maritime, and lead captain of Mjölnir. Thor is a lifelong fisherman. After fulfilling his dream as a veterinarian for over 20 years, he and his family moved to Maui where they have been coming for over 17 years. He has a passion for fishing and boating on the Pacific Ocean in the waters around Maui and decided his next adventure would be sharing the beauty of Maui from the comfort of his 33’ center console Boston Whaler, “Social Distancing”. Sadly, that vessel was lost within a year to the Lahaina Fire in August 2023. Mjölnir, however, was nearing completion at that time and with some hard work she was ready for her maiden launch this past December.
And don’t worry, he won’t be upset if you refer to his boat as “Thor’s Hammer” (or simply “The Hammer”). He knows Mjölnir is hard to pronounce!!
Captain Jonathan Keiley was introduced to saltwater fishing at an early age by his father, a longtime Maui charter fisherman. During his summers away from college, Jonathan started working as a deckhand. His commitment to fishing grew rapidly and he obtained his captain’s license at the age of 23. Jonathan is now one of Maui’s most sought-after fishing captains. He co-owned and operated his own sport fishing company before the Lahaina fire, which he eventually will be returning to once the harbor has been reconstructed. In the meantime, he’s pleased to get back on the water and share his experience with you aboard Mjölnir!
