Kaanapali shore fishing
Affordable shared and private West Maui shore fishing trips with local fishermen born and raised in Maui.
The shared shore fishing tours last for 2 hours, and take place off the beach fronting the popular Kaanapali resorts Honua Kai and Aston Mahana. Guests staying at the Westin Nanea, Maui Kai and Kaanapali Beach Club can expect a quick 5-minute drive. Maximum 6 guests (no more than 3 guests per guide). No experience necessary.
These shorter beach fishing excursions are perfect for families with school-aged children ages 5 and up, as well as single anglers just wanting to wet a line for a few hours. Longer, private tours can also be accommodated.
A typical catch may include reef fish, like papio, blue jacks, trevally, moi, o’io, Mu, triggerfish, stick fish, pufferfish, etc. 808 Fishing Tale’s shorefishing guides encourage catch & release, but if a guest catches a particularly nice fish and wants to keep it they can, so long as a) regulations allow it, and b) they have a way to prepare it.
Guides provide ice-cold water, energizing snacks, and a cooler w/ice that you can use for your own food & beverages. Booties/Reef-walkers recommended.
Meet at Honoapi’ilani Beach Park in Kaanapali (transportation not provided). Fishing can be done later in the day, but the beaches are more crowded, and the conditions often not as good. Start Times are generally, 7:30am, 12pm, and 4pm. Times subject to change based on tides and conditions.
